Show Biz Buzz: Remembering Sally Starr

PHILADELPHIA, PA

Sally Starr, Our Gal Sal, died yesterday a few days after her 90th birthday. The vivacious blonde TV cowgirl served as a surrogate parent for the Philadelphia region’s baby boomers for many years. She started on Channel 6 in 1950, and every afternoon after school, for two great hours a day, it was Sally Starr five days a week until 1971 with “Popeye Theater.”
