This Fourth of July, 98.1 WOGL’s Valerie Knight is celebrating Philadelphia freedom.

It was just announced that Val will be riding in the Independence Day parade, which is honoring 50 years of LGBT Rights in Philadelphia.

Val will be riding with the Delaware Valley Region of Lambda Car Club International (LCCI) in a Brilliant Red 1952 DeSoto Firedome Convertible. In addition to Val’s vehicle, the car club will have four additional vintage cars in the parade, including a 1941 Cadillac Series 63 Six Window Fast Back Sedan, a 1958 Dodge Royal Lancer (four door) Sedan, a 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham and a 1984 Hurst Oldsmobile Cutlass.

“I am proud and excited to participate with the Lambda Car Club International on July 4th and ride in the Independence Day Parade with the Delaware Valley Region,” Val said. “At such a momentous time for gay strides in our country, what better way is there to support and celebrate 50 years of LGBT rights in Philadelphia, the birthplace of America?

“Not only am I riding in a fabulous vintage car, a red 1952 DeSoto Firedome, but I get to ride along with my cousin Anthony Paolini, who is driving his 1941 Cadillac Series 63 Six Window Fast Back Sedan, one of several cars he has bought, collected and restored through the years.  He has always loved cars. In fact, on his 16th birthday, we drove over 200 miles around King of Prussia, where we grew up, in his dune buggy! He and his dad, my Uncle Tony, and his brother Paul all built it together. I have traveled many miles with my cousin and am proud and happy to support him, and his car club, that he enjoys so much. Happy Independence Day, God Bless America, and #GayIsOk!”

The Lambda Car Club International is the largest collector car club for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in North America. Membership is at approximately 2,200, with 32 active regions throughout the U.S. and Canada and four other associated regions internationally.  You don’t even have to have a car to join, but only to enjoy vehicles and social fellowship with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people who also enjoy vehicles. The club was founded in 1981 as the Gay Old Car Owners Society, based in New York.

The Wawa Welcome America Independence Day Parade is Saturday, July 4 from 10 am–2 pm.
