Although fans were hoping for a full-fledged Spice Girls reunion this year to celebrate their 20th anniversary, it didn’t quite happen. Instead, former bandmates Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel B joined together to create a new group called GEM. The name comes from the first letters of each woman’s name.
While the three current members have been vocal about their want to return to music, Mel C has been equally as vocal about not wanting to rejoin the girl group. She claims that she felt the group peaked in 2012 at the Olympic Games, and that she had been bullied during her run with the group.
“I’m not going to name names – but yes,” she says of her time as Sporty Spice. “It’s been addressed, they were aware of what they’d done. They apologized.”
She goes on to say: “What’s done is done but I’d have liked to have been a bit stronger. When we were kids we were so hard on each other and so determined to succeed that if anybody fell out of line they were quickly brought back in. That was quite a lot of pressure to live under.”
Victoria Beckham is reportedly too busy to rejoin the group at this point in time.
As rumors of 2017 tour and a headlining gig at Hyde Park loom, a new track by the re-imagine group has surfaced online. The Pop/R&B track is light and fun, and sounds modern and fresh without losing any of the signature Spice Girls power.
