Fans of the arts have plenty to look forward to in Philadelphia this season. There are plenty of great concerts and shows coming to our area and as always, our museums have some great exhibits, perfect for weekend fun. One of our most popular museums, The Barnes Foundation, has announced two new music series coming to the venue this year.

The Solo Series will feature live, unaccompanied performances from an instrumentalist or vocalist allowing for intense focus on the artist. Clarinetist Carol McGonnell will launch the series’ inaugural event, taking place on Friday, January 27th at 8PM. Tickets to the performance are $30, with the cost for members and students reduced to $20.

The second Solo Series concert of the year will be from violinist Pauline Kim Harris, performing Spencer Topel’s contemporary masterpiece Violine, Bach’s Chaconne in D minor, Heinrich Biber’s Passacaglia, and Salvatore Sciarrino’s Six Caprices. This event takes place on Friday, March 31st at 8PM, with the ticket cost is the same for each Solo Series show.

Resounding Voices is a choral concert series, which will alternate with the Solo Series on Sunday afternoons. Showcasing vocal traditions from around the world, guest conductor Robert Whalen will lead Philadelphia Voices in the first program, which will feature a complete performance of Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Vigilia for a cappella choir. You can see the choral series beginning Sunday, February 26th at 3PM, and the performance is free.
