The son of John Lennon, Sean Lennon, has released a new song he co-wrote with the late Carrie Fisher, his close friend. The pair had known each other for many years, with Lennon frequently staying with Fisher at her Beverly Hills home.

The son of the late Beatle posted the track to his Soundcloud page on Monday.

“Carrie and I wrote this song years ago,” Lennon says. “When she died I just felt I had to record it. This is only a demo unmixed, we only had a few hours to record it. But the lyrics she wrote with me I think are marvelous.”

The song, titled Bird Song, features vocals by the child of a local celebrity, Will Smith‘s daughter Willow Smith.

“Carrie and I used to stay up til dawn chatting and pontificating about life. They were my best moments. Anyway… we wrote a song about staying up too late and hearing the birds sing. Willow Smith is a prodigal angel and was generous enough to lend her golden voice to this little tune,” he writes of the piece on his Soundcloud page.

Take a listen to the song below and let us know what you think.
