As we await the arrival of Spring, one of the most anticipated holidays of the season is on its way this week. St. Patrick’s Day is Friday, March 17th and the city will be awash in green. It won’t be Eagles green, but it will be a huge party.
At 30th Street Station, running for your train will take on a lighter air as Tom and Marian Gittelman will be giving a free concert in the massive space from 1PM to 3PM.
Fixtures of the local traditional Irish folk scene for more than 25 years, the duo will play traditional folk songs such as When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, Danny Boy, Shoe the Donkey, Golden Slippers, and more. The two are founding members of the band Celtic Crosswinds, and also a part of Ceol Mor and The Philadelphia Ceili Band. On Tuesdays, you can catch them at Jack McShea’s in Ardmore.
“It’s a great, big space,” Marian says, “so we’re considering bringing a little sound system. We’re not trying to fill the entire place up, but you’ll be able to hear us as you walk past.”
Be sure to stop by the station on your way to your St. Paddy’s Day festivities and let us know what you think of the music!
