For months, fans have been speculating about whether Fleetwood Mac would be bringing us a new album featuring the group’s original lineup. Many felt that Stevie Nicks was the one holding out and choosing not to write and record new music with her former band, and it seems that is the case.

Breaking her deafening silence on the subject, Nicks tells Rolling Stone that she doesn’t have the heart to record new music with Fleetwood Mac, and the current state of the music industry is the reason why.

“I don’t think we’ll do another record,” Nicks says. “If the music business were different, I might feel different. I don’t think there’s any reason to spend a year and an amazing amount of money on a record that, even if it has great things, isn’t going to sell. What we do is go on the road, do a ton of shows and make lots of money. We have a lot of fun. Making a record isn’t all that much fun.”

The 68-year-old rocker has no intentions of slowing down, even if the band won’t be getting back together. Nicks will reunite with her bandmates for this year’s Classic East and Classic West music festival and says she will probably rejoin the crew at the end of the year for another tour.

“I will be back with them at the end of the year for, I think, another tour,” she says. “I just needed my two years off. Until then, I wish them the best in whatever they do.”

Nicks also says she has no intention to ever retire from the music business, even if she doesn’t want to make new music.

“I’ll never retire,” says Nicks. “My friend Doug Morris, who’s been president of, like, every record company, said to me once, “When you retire, you just get small.” Stand up straight, put on your heels, and get out there and do stuff.”

Let’s hope she continues to have a successful career for many years to come.
