Mötley Crüe Biography Could Be Netflix’s Next Venture

By: Renee Grant

A gritty biography of the band Mötley Crüe could be coming to Netflix in the form of a feature-length film.

The 2002 book The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band covers the band’s debauchery over the years, detailing their use of alcohol and drugs, and their penchant for celebrity love affairs.

Rumors that the movie could happen have been whispered since 2003, but Deadline is reporting the band is now in talks with streaming giant Netflix to produce the film. Jackass’ Jeff Tremaine will direct the project.

Rich Wilkes and Californication creator Tom Kapinos are tapped to write the script, while the band’s members, Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Mick Mars and Nikki Sixx will serve as co-producers.

The band, which formed in 1981, was a household name by 1984. Through the years the band made headlines for more than their music; Neil was in a head-on car collision, charged with DUI and vehicular manslaughter after his passenger, Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley, was killed in 1984 and Sixx survived a heroin overdose in 1987. After years of falling outs, the band reunited for 2005’s Red, White & Crue Tour. They finally retired after a highly successful two-year concert run that ended on December 31, 2015 at the Staples Center in LA.
