On the heels of an unauthorized documentary about Whitney Houston that premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, news of a documentary focusing on the tragic death of her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown.
Stuck in the Middle star Joy Rovaris has been tapped to play Bobbi Kristina, and singer Demetria McKinney will play Whitney Houston. Hassan Johnson from the television show The Wire has been cast as Bobby Brown, and Vivica A. Fox has been cast as Whitney’s sister Pat Houston. The film is titled simply, Bobbi Kristina.
The project is set to air on TV One in the summer of this year, and is said will provide an “intimate look at the highs and lows of parental, familial and romantic love complicated by fame through the eyes of a sensitive, vulnerable young woman.”
“Bobbi Kristina’s high-profile life — and untimely death — may have been shrouded in mystery, but this film will reveal her humor, quirks, deepest fears and longings,” the network says via statement. “This film explores her fight to be seen, heard, loved and to survive.”
Bobbi Kristina Brown was found unresponsive in her bathtub in January 2015, an incident eerily similar to her mother. She passed in July 2015, almost 6 months after the initial accident. While her ex-boyfriend Nick Gordon was a suspect, he never faced criminal charges for Bobbi’s death. He was found liable for her wrongful death in 2016.
