When American Idol left the airwaves in April of last year, it was after 15 seasons of moments we won’t soon forget. From the first season romance between Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson in season one, to William Hung and his rousing rendition of Ricky Martin‘s She Bangs, to Fantasia Barrino and her powerhouse voice.

American Idol inspired plenty of other reality talent shows including The Voice, America’s Got Talent, and So You Think You Can Dance. The format was innovative when it first debuted on June 11, 2002. Seeing undiscovered talent grow into superstars in front of your eyes over the course of a season was addictive, and watching people audition that we knew were never going to make it to the live rounds was entertaining.

Now, one year after the show left television, it is reportedly on its way back. The show could be on our small screens again beginning in March of 2018. While no official deal is in place according to the network that would be reviving the show, ABC, sources say negotiations are pretty far along and that details are being hashed out, so a deal could be reached very soon.

Apparently, NBC made a play for the show a few months ago, but the deal fell flat and now ABC is reaching for the stars. FOX also reportedly tried to bring the show back home but was outbid in the effort. ABC could announce the news of the show’s return in a soon as two weeks at its annual Upfront event.

Winners for the show’s 15 season run were Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery, Phillip Phillips, Candice Glover, Caleb Johnson, Nick Fradiani, and Trent Harmon. Many went on to enjoy successful recording careers with Clarkson even singing at President Barack Obama’s inauguration in January 2013.
