Just weeks after the announcement that Spotify executive and West Philly native Troy Carter had been named Entertainment Advisor to Prince‘s estate, he is angling to bring previously unreleased content to a streaming service exclusively.

Billboard reports that Carter is helping to negotiate a deal to give the rights to a streaming service, but it may not be Spotify. The estate has apparently been shopping the content to rivals of Spotify, including Apple Music.

The move could bring whatever service gains the rights to the forefront of a very pointed battle between the services, all of which have been finding ways to garner exclusive content in an effort to gain more users.

The content deal would include a highly sought-after film of a 1983 Minneapolis concert where Prince debuted several songs that would become part of the soundtrack to his 1984 movie Purple Rain. Additional behind-the-scenes footage included with the concert doc could be used by the buyer to create a documentary about the concert and the making of the concert film.

It is notable that Carter is willing to negotiate the deal with competitors of his own service, proving that he is committed to looking out for the best interests of the estate.
