The son of Beatles producer George Martin, Giles Martin, has confirmed plans to release a remixed version of the band’s classic White Album.
Marking the 50th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Martin and engineer Sam Okell worked together to re-mix the album in stereo. Martin seems to have the same plans for the 1968 classic White Album.
Speaking to BBC Radio 6, Martin said, “‘White Album’, which will be the next release – that was when they started becoming properly indulgent…There are so many takes of ‘Sexy Sadie’, for instance. The efficiency went slightly out the window.”
Speaking about his reasoning for re-releasing the material to a new set of fans, Martin says, My motivation – when I tell my kids or grandkids about this album that changed the face of pop music, you want them to put it on a go, ‘Yeah, I get it!’ rather than, ‘This sounds a bit old…’”
There is no word on a release date, but logically, we can assume it will come sometime in 2018 to mark the album’s 50th anniversary.
