During the encore of the concert at Count Basie Theater, the crowd went wild when Van Zandt introduced Springsteen on Saturday. Van Zandt jokingly called Springsteen “a friend who’s out of work.”

The pair played four songs during the set, including Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out and a cover of Marvin Gaye‘s Can I Get a Witness.

Van Zandt and the Disciples of Soul performed to mark the release of Van Zandt’s new album SOULFIRE.

Back in April, Springsteen joined Van Zandt for a two-hour jam session at the Asbury Park Music & Film Festival.
