Usually known for making us laugh ’til we cry, Bill Murray will be entertaining us in a different way with a new album of classical music featuring cellist Jan Vogler. The album is titled New Worlds.

Murray and Vogler will debut music from the project on June 4th in Dresden, Germany. An American debut is set for July 20th at the Festival Napa Valley in California. A tour of North America is slated to begin this fall.

The album is a mix of classical music, American standards, and literary readings, with tracks including selections from Johann Sebastian Bach and Maurice Ravel, as well as literary works by Ernest Hemingway and Mark Twain. Murray will also perform a West Side Story medley of Somewhere, I Feel Pretty, and America, as well as Stephen Foster‘s Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair.

With Murray on vocals and narration and Vogler on the cello, the ensemble is completed by Vanessa Perez on piano and Mira Wang on violin. Murray describes the project as “the collision of America and Europe,” noting that all the artists on the project hail from different continents.

“We are from four different continents,” Murray says. “And when the continents come together, the music moves right across the peninsulas from one to the other. It’s just a short journey from one continent to the other.”
