The disco dance floor from the Saturday Night Fever film is heading to auction later this month as part of a massive auction dubbed the Profiles in History Hollywood Auction.

The iconic, light-up dance floor, measuring 16 feet by 24 feet, is expected to fetch up to $1.5M dollars. Custom built for the film, the red, blue, and yellow lights of the floor flashed in rhythm with the music. It houses more than 250 separate lighting compartments.

The dance floor was used in a small Brooklyn club where the famous dance scenes were filmed. The auction takes place in Los Angeles from June 26th through June 28th.

The floor’s current owner, Vito Bruno, the chief executive of New York-based party planning group AMPM Entertainment, says he started his career at 2001 Odyssey, the club where the scenes were shot. The club eventually changed its name and closed in 2005.

“I received a call from a friend telling me that the club was closing and they were auctioning off the contents including the legendary dance floor, so I bought it,” said Bruno. “I have had the dance floor for a few years now. It’s one of the most recognizable pieces of film memorabilia in history, but I’ve decided it’s time to share it with the world.”

The film launched John Travolta‘s career into the stratosphere, and the film itself was selected in 2010 to be preserved by the National Film Registry.
