A comedy biopic film titled The Polka King about Pennsylvania polka legend Jan Lewan starring comedian Jack Black has been picked up by Netflix, according to Deadline.
The streaming giant reportedly paid seven figures for the rights to the movie, which first premiered at Sundance this past January. No date for release has been announced, but it should be available before the end of the year.
Black stars as Lewan, a polka musician who created his own Ponzi-like scheme, bilking elderly people out of tons of cash. Lewan’s wife is a woman who dreams of returning to her former glory as a beauty queen, played by Jenny Slate.
The Polka King is based on a documentary film about Lewan called The Man Who Would Be Polka King.
