Rocking out for the crowd at the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards in Ottawa, Canada, Michael J. Fox grabbed a guitar and performed with Joan Jett last night (June 29).

The awards honor artists who have been influential to Canadian culture. Past recipients have included Rush, Tragically Hip, and Leonard Cohen, as well as actors, philanthropists, theater performers, filmmakers and more.

Last night’s ceremony honored the work of Michael Buble, Martin Short, and Fox, who’s performance was a part of his own tribute.

After a short interview film, the screen rose and revealed Jett’s band featuring Fox on a Les Paul! The pair sang a Bruce Springsteen tune, Light of Day, from the soundtrack of the 1987  film of the same name. Jett and Fox were both starred in the film.

The full GGPAA ceremony will air tonight on CBC at 9PM EST.
