It may seem like everybody is taking shots and sipping on drinks before hitting the stage these days, but not the legendary Paul McCartney. He recently revealed he doesn’t drink before shows, and for very good reason.
No crazy backstage riders for Sir Paul, who says that although he used to take a drink before a gig, he now asks for simple snacks such as chocolate raisins and cashews. The 75-year-old rocker says, “I don’t eat or drink before I go on because I sort of like to feel light. Then afterwards I can get heavy and have a drink. Before I go on I don’t do that.
“But I do have little sort of snacky things in the dressing room that I might just grab, like chocolate covered raisins and equal amount of salted cashews.”
The reason? Drinking would cause McCartney to forget the lyrics to his songs while on stage during his Beatles and Wings days.
Other stars are much more demanding in their backstage riders, but it could be why some artists live performances aren’t quite what you expect when they take the stage. Good for Sir Paul!
