Disney’s upcoming live-action version of their classic Aladdin movie will star a local favorite!

On Saturday (July 15), at Disney’s D23 Expo, three of the film’s lead actors were announced. In Guy Ritchie‘s adaptation, Will Smith will play the role of Genie, while Power Rangers star Naomi Scott will star as Princess Jasmine, and relatively unknown Mena Massoud will star as Aladdin.

Reportedly, over 2,000 actors and actresses tested for the lead roles. No word yet on who would play the roles of the Sultan, Jafar, and who would voice the role of his sidekick, the parrot Iago.

Filming is due to begin this August in London. A release date has yet to be confirmed.

Disney is also gearing up to produce live-action versions of their hit cartoon movies Mulan and The Lion King, which has also been adapted into a hit Broadway musical.

It’s going to be a sight to behold watching Mr. MIB himself perform Friend Like Me!
