The Escape Room craze has taken the country by storm with a simple concept, use clues within an enclosed space to help you… escape.

The Franklin Institute, Philly’s resident science museum, has joined in the fun with two new themed rooms: Intergalactic Escape and Island Escape, which opened on June 14th.

“This is a first for The Franklin Institute … a continuation of our initiatives to reach a new and broader audience. Escaping these rooms requires skills essential to every field of science,” says Franklin Institute President and CEO Larry Dubinski.

Cool tools help you to meet your mission, like a wrist scanner to activate challenges and puzzles in the Intergalactic Escape room. The cool trip begins when you journey through a wormhole into a parallel world where everything is inside out and upside down. You get to try and restore order to the universe, with clever references to some of your favorite sci-fi films including The Matrix, The Fifth Element, and Star Trek.

The Island Escape room is designed for ages 8 and above, and the mission features a deserted island paradise, owned by a fictional billionaire known as Marcellus. Taking on roles such as entertainment director and movie star, completing challenges will allow you to leave the island.

“Know your roles … and participate,” one of the Island Escape tips reads.

A minimum of six people are needed for your group, but no more than 14 people can experience the room at once.

“If you don’t know people in your group, you need to get comfortable with them fast. Yell out what you find. Make sure every person in this group knows what you’re doing,” another Island Escape tip advises.

The rooms will remain at the museum at least through 2018. Admission is $28 and does not include general museum admission. Hours are listed below. For more information, visit www.fi.edu.
