One of the Rocky film franchises most recognizable faces, Dolph Lundgren, will return as Ivan Drago in the upcoming Creed sequel.

The Creed franchise is a follow-up to the original Rocky series, which originally consisted of six films before Creed was released in 2015. The original Rocky film was released in 1976.

In Rocky IV, Lundgren first played Drago, a boxer from the USSR who challenges Rocky to an exhibition match, which fellow boxer Apollo Creed fights instead. Creed dies after the fight due to the beating he takes in the ring, and Rocky challenges Drago to a fight, hoping to avenge his peer. He eventually does beat Drago after a long, brutal boxing match. In the Creed continuation, Rocky becomes the trainer of Creed’s son, Adonis (Donnie) Johnson.

Lundgren teased his return in the Creed follow-up via his Instagram account, posting a video of himself working out that he captioned, “Getting ready for something big!” He mentioned Sylvester Stallone‘s Instagram account in the post and added the hashtags #Creed2 and #IvanDrago.

While the details of Lundgren’s return to the role haven’t been announced, it’s entirely possible that Rocky and Drago could have a rematch, as Stallone has said that the structure of Creed 2 could use a less linear timeline, similar to the style of The Godfather 2.

“Ryan (Coogler) has some ideas of going forward and backward and actually seeing Rocky and Apollo together,” Stallone said. “Think of The Godfather 2. That’s what he was thinking of, which was kind of ambitious.”

Creed 2 is slated for release sometime in 2019 or 2020.
