The incredible Sheila E. performed a passionate cover of the BeatlesCome Together on The Late Show on Wednesday night (September 6th) with the show’s house band Jon Batiste and Stay Human.

The song also appears on Sheila’s new LP Iconic: Message 4 America. She also covers tunes from Marvin Gaye (Inner City Blues and Trouble Man), Parliament Funkadelic (One Nation Under A Groove and Mothership Connection), and Curtis Mayfield (Pusherman). The Prince protegé proves she’s learned a lot from his funk/soul roots.

She recorded the album while still grieving over the death of Prince in April of 2016, and in the tumultuous time after last year’s presidential election. “I was mourning Prince, I was mourning our country,” Sheila told Rolling Stone. “This person who comes into office through bullying – it was just overwhelming. I cried a lot. I still often cry a lot. It’s just the way I heal.”
