Can you believe it’s been 50 years since we were first treated to all the laughs and fun from the cast of The Carol Burnett Show? This December (2017) we get to relive all the jokes and chemistry that made the show a hit!
On December 3rd at 8PM, CBS will air a tribute to the show that gave us the infamous Went With The Wind! sketch, As the Stomach Turns, and of course, birthed the incredibly popular Mama’s Family television series starring Vicki Lawrence as Thelma Harper, the no-nonsense family matriarch.
The show originally premiered on September 11th, 1967 and was a precursor to later sketch comedy shows like Saturday Night Live.
Starring in the special with Carol Burnett will be original cast members, and special guests including Jim Carrey, Stephen Colbert, Harry Connick Jr., Jay Leno, Martin Short, Maya Rudolph, and many more.
“I can’t believe how fast the time went, and what makes me the happiest is that so much of the funny stuff we did still holds up today, and we can share it with generations to come,” says Burnett. “What a great ride!”
The anniversary celebration show will see Burnett reminiscing about her favorite sketches, holding a signature Q&A with audience members and guest stars, and taking viewers on a tour through her costumes and blooper reel from the series.
“If social media existed then, clips from the broadcast would have quickly gone viral,” says Leslie Moonves, Chairman and CEO, CBS Corporation. “We are very proud of the show’s significant place in CBS’ legacy, as well as in television history, and we look forward to this primetime celebration of incredible talent, led by the incomparable Carol Burnett.”
