While we were all working through the gravity of the news of the tragedy in Las Vegas this past weekend (October 1st), Mariah Carey was being interviewed live on Good Morning Britain, but the segment became awkward when hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid asked Carey for her commentary on the shooting.

Carey clearly wasn’t aware of what had happened yet and was blindsided on live TV by the news, evidenced by her shocked expression. She called the tragedy “horrible” and said she would “pray for the victims.”

Carey recently finished a residency in Las Vegas, and after learning more from Morgan and Reid, she went on to say, “Wow, that’s awful. Again, I pray for the victims and hope all these can stop as soon as possible. You know I have spent a lot of time in Vegas and this type of thing happening anywhere is a huge tragedy. I continue to pray for the victims. I hope we have an end to this as soon as possible.”

Morgan takes the show to commercial break, stating that they will be back to speak more with Carey, who is promoting her upcoming Christmas special, but she didn’t return in the following segment.

Viewers expressed their anger that the show chose to disclose such sensitive information during a live interview by taking to social media.

Mariah took to Twitter moments after the interview to express her condolences.

Watch the interview below and tell us your thoughts, should they have told Mariah before the interview started?
