When Brielle was born at Abington Medical Center, her oxygen levels were low. After spending the night trying to get her levels up, they realized Brielle had a heart defect. Brielle was quickly transferred to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where she underwent heart surgery at just five days old. Altogether, Brielle went through three heart surgeries within the first three years of her life.

Fast forward three years later, Brielle is a thriving first grader. She takes ice skating lessons six times a week and will soon start to compete. Brielle comes back to CHOP every other year to make sure that her heart has enough blood flow. Doctors take the time to explain everything in a way that is easy for Brielle and her family to understand – making each and every visit a little bit more comforting for all of them.
