While in the Cardiac Care Unit for observation, a medical resident at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia noticed that Zoe was not doing well in the middle of the night. Keeping Zoe and her parents a priority, the resident explained that something was wrong and that he had to push the button for help. As people rushed into the room to take care of Zoe, someone stayed with her parents to help them keep calm in what felt like an insane situation. Zoe was then rushed into emergency open heart surgery.

Zoe is now eleven years old and is incredibly curious. She reads a book a day, and participates in her school plays. Zoe is seen regularly at CHOP and she and her family are incredibly grateful for the support from all of the staff, but particularly the Child Life Specialists who help Zoe understand and cope with all of her medical needs.
