Remarkable Women: Regarding THON, Liberty Ball, and the Philly Home Show

February 12, 2018
By Shannon Frost Greenstein Marilyn has an amazing show this week filled with remarkably remarkable women! Her first guests are two students from Penn State who are involved with THON, which is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, designed to raise funding and spread awareness of cancer research in the name of an ultimate cure.  Kelly McCready is Alumni Engagement Director and Tina Lu is Alumni Engagement Captain.  This year's THON weekend is February 16th - 18th, and will include 16,500 student volunteers, 25,000 alumni supporters, and over 5,000,000 hours put in my THON volunteers over the course of a year.  Because 100 percent of patient care costs are covered by THON's monetary contributions, no family ever sees a medical bill for cancer care. Next we hear from Becky DiMattesa and Victoria Maseda, volunteers for the Liberty Ball, an event organized by Penn State's Philadelphia Alumni Chapter wherein proceeds are donated to the THON efforts.  The Liberty Ball is an annual gala designed for alumni to continue fundraising for THON even after graduation.  This year, the Ball is on Saturday, February 24th, and they hope to match or surpass last year's total of nearly $50,000 raised.  Ms. DiMattesa has been involved with the Philadelphia Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association and the Liberty Ball since 2010, while Ms. Maseda, a 2014 graduate of Penn State, continues to support THON as an alumnus as Event Chair of the Liberty Ball.  Tickets are on sale now at Finally, Marilyn speaks to Rachel Street, President of Hestia Construction, LLC, Licensed Realtor with The Street Group at Space & Company, and the host of "Philly Street Flippin'" on the DIY Network.  Her knowledge of property valuation, finance, design, and construction make her a unique resource for her clients in every stage of property development and residential ownership.  Rachel discusses the Philly Home and Garden Show, which is February 16th through the 18th at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA.  The Philly Home and Garden Show features hundreds of design experts and countless products for kitchens, baths, gardens, and everything in between.  Visitors can shop, compare prices, and and receive home design tips from such professionals as Paige Davis, host of TLC's Trading Spaces.   [cbs-clip-player content_id={77fe86a1-238a-485c-ab9d-a882015d8dfd} size=large station=15]
