They say history has a way of repeating itself and trends are no exception to that rule. From overalls to bellbottoms, you see fashion repeating styles we saw popular over two decades ago.

The next thing to make its way back into significance? Cassette tapes. Yes, that’s right. According to TheGuardian.com, the long antiquated piece of musical delivery has seen an increase in sales of 125% in 2018 from the previous year alone.

But why the sudden increase you ask? It may be because top artists like Ariana Grande and Eminem have offered cassette tapes as possible listening formats for their albums. Millennials and Gen Z love feeling nostalgic no matter how inconvenient things might get for them. You see this with the resurgence of vinyl and polaroid cameras. It’s an interesting juxtaposition we find ourselves in as technological advances offer more efficiency while the need for nostalgia gives our childhood objects a platform to rise again.

For those of you who grew up on cassette tapes, this is some exciting news! Stores like Urban Outfitters (the true marker of what’s hot in Gen Z/Millennials trends) is selling a cassette player to accompany your "Thank U, Next" cassette.

It’s still important to note that streaming remains the top mode of listening for users. So we’ll see how long this momentum lasts for cassette tapes. Will it become the next vinyl craze or just a passing nostalgic fancy?
