Laurel's Story

November 26, 2018

Five-year-old Laurel was born with hydrocephalus also known as water on the brain and diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

She was transferred to CHOP’s NICU after she was born. Mom said that being at Children’s Hospital was a good experience because CHOP let her still be Laurel’s mom. She could hold her, dress her and feed her. Laurel still felt like her baby even in the hospital.

Laurel is a determined little girl who wants to participate in everything, even with her walker, like dancing, basketball and cheerleading. She recently had surgery to help with the tightness in her legs and mom says it’s helped a lot.

Mom explains why she considers Laurel a miracle child and CHOP their partner in her health care.
