May 9, 2018

Marilyn's first guest is Sheel Bhuta, the Preakness at the Piazza Committee Co-Chair.  She visits Marilyn to speak about the sixth annual Preakness at the Piazza, on Saturday, May 19th from 5-9:30 p.m.  This day significantly impacts the Multiple Sclerosis community, of which Sheel is a member, while remaining the must-attend fashion event of the Spring in Philadelphia.  It benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, which funds cutting-edge research, engages in advocacy, facilitates education, and promotes services designed to help people with MS and their families move forward.

Next, Marilyn speaks to Becca Craig, a Philly resident who is competing on The Food Network's Best Baker in America.  She can claim being the baker of Beyonce's birthday cake in 2017 on her resume, as well, and has perfected the "geode" cakes which are so trendy at the moment.  Becca is the Executive Chef at Cake Life Bake Shop in Fishtown when she's not a reality-TV star, and speaks to Marilyn about her culinary education, her path to Best Baker in America, and her love of the science behind baking.

Finally, we meet Kristin Kiser and June Bretz, who are promoting Philadelphia Literacy Day on Saturday, May 12th.  The day is a free festival of family fun celebrating Philadelphia as a city of readers, writers, and thinkers.  It is presented by Tree House Books in partnership with Read by 4th & the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.  Kristin is Vice President and Publisher of Running Press Publishers, as well as Publisher of Black Dog and Leventhal Publishers.  June is Executive Director of Tree House Books, utilizing her Master's degree in nonprofit management, championing literacy in Philadelphia.
