Being 18 is all about friends and school as you prepare for your transition to adulthood. Kayla had to grow up faster than she expected when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma during her junior year of high school.

She recalls grabbing her long curly hair upon hearing her diagnosis knowing that soon it would be gone as chemotherapy would be part of lifesaving measures. Kayla says she never expected to become so close with the staff at CHOP; they've become like a second family to her.

The Child Life Specialists at CHOP helped her cope with her time in the hospital with adult coloring books and other crafts to help pass the time during treatments. Now Kayla is attending college majoring in Early and Special Education with the goal of becoming a Child Life Specialist herself!
