Nicole was completely shocked when doctors discovered that her daughter Olivia had a congenital heart defect at her 20-week ultrasound. Nicole and her husband came to CHOP and worked with the Obstetrics team for the remainder of her pregnancy.

Olivia was born at CHOP's Special Delivery Unit where the team honored Nicole's birth plan while preparing Olivia for her first open heart surgery at four days old. Her heart is now growing normally and functioning properly. The next challenge will be removing a growth underneath a heart valve.

Nicole says it's even harder now to imagine Olivia, now 5, going in for surgery. She is starting to pick up on the conversations during her cardiac appointments and has already advised her brothers that when she goes in for her heart surgery she doesn't want them bringing any germs in her hospital room!

On December 3rd and 4th from 6a-7p, 98.1 WOGL and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia are teaming up to raise money to support patient care programs at CHOP. Learn more here.
