Tessa's Story

November 26, 2018

Mom knew about CHOP because she had her own surgeries at the hospital when she was a baby. But it was still terrifying to learn that her baby was in trouble and needed serious intervention. Mom and baby Tessa underwent fetal surgery for spina bifida. Doctors were able to close the hole in Tessa’s spine giving her the best chance possible growing up.

Mom remained on CHOP’s Special Delivery Unit over the winter holidays and knows what it’s like to stay in the hospital and wait. She now donates items to make those long stays easier for moms on bedrest.

Tessa is now 1 year old and doing well. Mom calls her a “spitfire.” She shares more about Tessa’s personality here.
