Remarkable Women 091618-Lisa Parker-Marla McDermott-Claire Moyer

Friday, September 14th

We have three Remarkable Women on the show this week! First up is Lisa Parker, Co-Founder of Peace Day Philly. Peace Day Philly, the local initiative for the United Nations International Day of Peace, promotes peace across the region with special events from September 16th  to the 21st. Peace Day Philly invites individuals, organizations, city offices and neighborhoods to participate in this effort through engaging in meaningful peace-related activities in their home, school or community, or by attending a Peace Day Philly program—most are free! For more about Peace Day Philly, go to The full list of 2018 events can be found at

Lisa is a Philadelphia native and social worker by training who has worked in various social services, anti-bullying, educational, cross-cultural, mental health and public health programs in a number of Philly neighborhoods. She has stewarded PDP from a grassroots initiative in early 2011 through becoming a non-profit organization in late 2013, and serves as President of PDP’s Board.

Marla McDermott

Marilyn then talks to Marla McDermott, Founder and President of the Walnut Club. The Walnut Club is a premium business and social network for professional, driven women striving for excellence in all facets of their lives. The Walnut Club is hosting A Conversation with Gloria Allred and brunch on Sunday, September 23rd at the Le Meridien Hotel in Center City Philadelphia from 11:00am-3:00pm. Marilyn Russell will moderate the event! This event is open to the public. Limited tickets are still available and can be purchased at

Rounding out the show we have Claire Moyer, a Barrymore Award nominated director - she is one of the area's leading young female directors. She is currently doing something very rare - playing double duty directing two shows at the same time for two different theatre companies. Where does this young woman find the time!? Claire is directing The Philadelphia Artists' Collective production Mary Rose by JM Barrie at Woodlands Mansion and Cemetery. That is on stage now through Sept 22nd. She is also directing Inis Nua Theatre Company's The Monster in the Hall by David Greig from Oct 3 - Oct 21 at the Louis Bluver Theater at the Drake.  Claire received her BA from Drew University, trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and holds an MA in Directing from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She is also a teaching artist for Philadelphia Young Playwrights.
