Remarkable Women 100718-Martha Lucy-Paige Price-Emily Zeck.mp3

Monday, October 8th

This week’s show showcases the arts around Philadelphia! First we meet Dr. Martha Lucy, Deputy Director for Research, Interpretation and Education at the Barnes Foundation. Dr. Lucy talks to Marilyn about a few upcoming events including one happening today (Sunday the 7th from 4-8pm). Barnes on the Block: Remix is a FREE event featuring food trucks, dancing, and a beer garden in the Barnes Foundation parking lot. Plus, guests can experience an augmented reality mural inside the Barnes! Dr. Lucy also discusses the Barnes Fall Exhibit, Berthe Morisot: Woman Impressionist, as well as its kick-off event, “Fashion and Feminism: A Symposium Inspired by Berthe Morisot” on Saturday, October 20. Led by Dr. Lucy, this symposium will bring together scholars, curators, and designers to explore the historically complicated relationship between fashion and feminism. Next, Marilyn is joined by two remarkable women from the Philadelphia Theatre Company -- Producing Artistic Director Paige Price and Managing Director Emily Zeck. They are also two of the region’s newest and highest level female arts leaders. They discuss PTC’s 2018/2019 season. Shows include: Pulitzer Prize-winner “Sweat” by Lynn Nottage (October 12 – November 4), the world premiere production of “How To Catch Creation” by Christina Anderson (February 8 – March 3, 2019) and the Tony Award-winning musical “The Bridges of Madison County” (March 22 – April 14, 2019).  These complex and beautifully crafted stories from three award-winning female voices center around women and their experience - their relationships, their untold stories, their triumphs and their power. The season will journey to 1965 in Iowa for a sweeping musical, to a realistic and visceral modern-day experience in the heart of Pennsylvania, and to a generation-spanning daring new drama that audiences will discover for the first time.
